With the end of first year and beginning of second year comes the phase of "Thesis decision making". For many postgraduates it is a nightmare until they arrive at a plan. With the plan in hand the thesis work will kickstart bringing in more confusion and much more decisions to make. I apologise to showcase the thesis process to be nightmarish. Trust me you will learn a lot during this part of your postgraduation. With this post I would like to elaborate on the skeleton of how to go about in selecting a thesis topic.
1. First of all arrive at rough topics of your interest. Make a list. At this stage I would not suggest you to boggle your mind over journals.
2. Then with the rough topics in your hand search for recent articles in journals. Collect all these articles. They will be your guidance. Group the collected articles according to topics. This will give you a framework and reintroduce you to your interest.
3. Now take these articles to your guide. But beforehand make sure you have read through these articles.
4. You will have to have brainstorming session with your guide to finalise the area of your future thesis.
These are the basic steps to the very beginning step of arriving at a thesis topic.
My next post will be on how to go through the initial phase. Till then take care!! Cheers!
